My question is the termination switch on the Apollo when using an external clock should it be in our out ????

does it only work with the super rack?

MADI also will work over Cat5 cable like Dante. This setup is often used by Soundcraft stage boxes and mixers.

As you explained how you have adat 1 going to your hilio and adat 2 to your p16. Does this mean you only track at 48khz? What would you do if you track at 96khz?

Thanks for the video! I have a question. I'm running an Orion Studio 2016 right now and it basically doesn't work with windows (11). The software is too old and not updated and it cannot run the mixer section. I want to sell it and upgrade to a newer model, but I'm in doubt. Can I use this as a patch bay? I see your examples but none of them show if it's possible to take a analog input (synth), send it through the machine to an analog output (i.e. to a compressor) and back into the unit via another analog input. It looks like this is possible, but will the signal then go through 2x A/D (D/A) conversion? Would it make sense to get this unit if I can also get an RME UCFX which also simply has the option for external processing with an insert straight from your daw (but at the expense of going through one cycle of A/D D/A for every analog processing unit)? Or does the orion32+ actually function as a digitally controlled analog patch bay, where the signal goes from the analog input (synth) to the analog output (compressor) directly (as in a patch bay) and then finally when it comes from the compressor and is routed into the DAW only then goes through A/D conversion?

I've just bought the Gen 4 - I don't think I will have the same problem as you as I tend to record more traditionally (used to 24 tracks) so, I think the largest thing I've ever done is like 40 tracks plus inserts. I am running everything through an analogue desk, hence wanting the ins and outs that the Gen 4 provides. Hopefully all will be fine!

Vocals are also... LA2A please. I would pay the extra $$$. Difference I suddenly don't mind.

WARM was good for Bass but man those Drum Samples and Piano differences... it's pretty much clear the price tag difference, and the limitations of the hardware itself. Personally, I wouldn't mind owning any of those, like I see every piece of gear as usable it only depends on the context. For me here, I would pick LA-2A whenever I'm after a cleaner more transparent sound and the Warm Audio for more character, punchy saturation and bite, or maybe make the sounds more lofi and destroy the samples, kinda like a real life devil-loc. Of course, if it's a clone you should expect they do the same or something I personally don't care but I get the argument of "What's the point if it's failing on doing what the original it's supposed to" or something like that. But like I said before I would be very happy if I had any of those on my studio and just being able to run audio on them for fun.

Thanks for the video mate. Just to clear things up a bit. 400 watts is a lot of power, but that's not how to measure SPL. It's all about speaker sensitivity, meaning that a speaker with high sensitivity may put out higher SPL at lower wattage. So for the sake of SIMPLICITY, you could have a speaker with high sensitivity putting out higher SPL with only 15 watt of amplification , than a driver with low sensitivity pushed by 400 watts.. Hope it makes sense.. 😊

Interesting! could I route / create a multi hardware chain in series ? does the unit route internally or it would be multiple conversion cycles back and forth to Protools with each insert ? example 1176 to LA2A to EQ unit ?

Downloaded the files and did detailed comparisons. Spent the whole day comparing raw files but also processed (compression, EQ, etc.) U67 takes processing very very well. I think that might be the reason why it's so popular. Slate ML-1 is head and shoulders above Sphere L22 when modeling U67. Sphere was pretty awful tbh. Kind of surprised by that. I own both, the Sphere and Slate, and for some reason I keep coming back to the Slate. The 2 main takeaways for me are: 1. Lauten LS-208 is an incredible mic for the money. There simply isn't a reason to buy the SM7 (any variant). I own a UA SD1 also and I put it up for sale. The capsule simply fails to capture upper mid information that just about any other mic in your lineup does. 2. Lauten Atlantis is THE mic to buy. Put it in gentle mode, and do a 5db high shelf at 8-12k on a Pultec and you get your U67 sound. EDIT: One of the ways to judge a mic is to see how well it cancels the room. U67, U89, Atlantis - all do a great job. Sphere absolutely flunks the test.

Awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to do this. I do know for a fact that you could take an extra step from a calibration standpoint. When speaking with one of the engineers at Black Lion audio, he informed me that there is essentially a sensitivity calibration knob inside of each unit, it could be that even though the meters are saying that they’re compressing the same amount, they actually aren’t. For your own personal use, I would definitely consider calibrating that knob inside of each unit this one ensure that the meter responds in a way that correctly reflects the amount of gain reduction. Awesome video, my friend!

I'm wondering if you have any ideas to why Studio One is only picking up 24 i/o's using USB ? In the Orion control panel it shows 32 Line in and outputs, but only 24 Daw i/0. I tried changing the settings in the Orion control panel from 24 to 32 and it switches back as soon as I click it. I did use the supplied thunderbolt cable, but it had a usb adapter for the end of it. Do I need an actual USB cable?
